Ramallah – The Minister of Social Development and Acting Minister of State for Relief Affairs, Dr. Samah Hamad, affirmed that strengthening partnerships between government institutions, civil society organizations, and donor partners is a fundamental pillar for expanding social protection and ensuring that assistance reaches the most vulnerable Palestinian families.
She made these remarks during the launch of a project to distribute 2,500 food parcels and 2,500 shopping vouchers, implemented by the Ministry of Social Development through its Ramallah and Al-Bireh Directorate, in partnership with the Scientific Center Charitable Society and with support from the State of Kuwait. The project will benefit 2,500 families across the governorates of the West Bank.
The event was attended by Dr. Amjad Imran Salhab, Chairman of the Scientific Center Charitable Society; Eng. Areej Assi, Chairperson of the Joint Services Council for West Jerusalem; Mr. Mohammad Ragheb Rabie, Mayor of Beit Anan; Mr. Mohammad Salim, Director General of the General Administration of Associations and Local Community; Dr. Khalil Tanous, Director of the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Directorate; members of the Directorate's staff; and representatives of local authorities and partner institutions.
Dr. Hamad stressed that the difficult humanitarian and economic conditions facing the Palestinian people require greater coordination and expanded humanitarian interventions, particularly in light of the ongoing Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip and its consequences, including widespread displacement and the deterioration of health and food security conditions, as well as the escalating attacks by Israeli occupation forces and settlers and the ongoing forced displacement in the West Bank.
She emphasized that the Ministry continues to provide social protection services, cash and in-kind assistance, and care and psychosocial support services, while giving priority to children, orphans, persons with disabilities, older persons, and displaced and affected families, in cooperation with local and international partners.
Dr. Hamad also expressed appreciation for the continued support provided by the State of Kuwait, both its government and people, to the Palestinian people, noting that the project reflects the deep fraternal ties and humanitarian solidarity between the Palestinian and Kuwaiti peoples. She further commended the Scientific Center Charitable Society for its partnership with the Ministry in implementing humanitarian and relief programmes that support the most vulnerable families.
For his part, Dr. Amjad Imran Salhab, Chairman of the Scientific Center Charitable Society, stated that the project is a response to the difficult humanitarian conditions and contributes to alleviating the living burdens faced by Palestinian families while strengthening their resilience. He praised the cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development, local authorities, and partner institutions, reaffirming the Society's commitment to continuing its humanitarian programmes in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Hamad reaffirmed the importance of sustained cooperation between government institutions, civil society organizations, and donor partners to ensure the continuity of social protection services.
