Statement Issued by the MoSD
The Ministry of Social Development is following with deep concern and sorrow the incident of domestic violence that occurred today in the Palestinian community, which has once again highlighted the serious risks associated with the escalation of violence within the family and its profound humanitarian and social consequences for family security and stability.
The Ministry affirms that domestic violence, regardless of its causes or justifications, constitutes a violation of human dignity and the right to live in safety. It also threatens the cohesion of the Palestinian family, which has long served as the cornerstone of Palestinian society’s resilience in the face of various challenges.
The Ministry further stresses that the manifestations of domestic violence witnessed within society are unacceptable and do not reflect the core values of Palestinian society, which are founded on compassion, solidarity, and mutual respect. In light of the exceptional circumstances facing the Palestinian people, there is an even greater need to promote a culture of dialogue, mutual understanding, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts in a manner that preserves the dignity and rights of all family members.
The Ministry reaffirms that protecting women, children, older persons, and all members of the family from violence is a shared national and societal responsibility. This requires concerted efforts by government institutions, civil society organizations, religious and educational institutions, the media, and families themselves to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of violence and to foster a culture of respect and tolerance within the family.
The Ministry calls on anyone experiencing or witnessing any form of domestic violence to seek help without remaining silent and to contact the relevant authorities to access protection, counseling, and psychosocial support services. Early reporting and intervention are essential to preventing the escalation of cases and ensuring the protection of all family members.
The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to fulfilling its legal and professional responsibilities, in coordination with its governmental, civil society, and international partners, by providing protection and care services to individuals at risk and strengthening prevention and awareness programmes. These efforts aim to safeguard the Palestinian family, promote its security and stability, and uphold the values of justice, human dignity, and the rule of law.
