Ministry of Social Development Warns of Declining Flour Supplies and Calls for Strengthened Humanitarian Response in the Gaza Strip
Ramallah – The Ministry of Social Development has warned of worsening food security challenges in the Gaza Strip amid the continued decline in the quantities of flour and essential food commodities entering the territory, and the resulting reduction in the capacity of bakeries and community kitchens to meet the growing needs of families.

The Ministry explained that available data indicate that flour supplies have declined to approximately 200 metric tons per day, while daily needs are estimated at no less than 450 metric tons. This widening gap is exacerbating food insecurity and affecting the ability of many households to secure their basic food requirements.

The Ministry further noted that a number of bakeries and community kitchens are facing increasing difficulties in maintaining their operations due to funding shortages and limited available resources, in addition to shortages of fuel and other operational inputs required for their continued functioning.

It stressed that the continuation of these conditions threatens to reduce the quantity of bread and cooked meals available to families, particularly given the heavy reliance of large segments of the population on humanitarian assistance as a primary source of food.

The Ministry of Social Development renewed its call to the United Nations, international and humanitarian organizations, and donor partners to strengthen humanitarian response efforts and ensure the adequate and sustained flow of flour, food supplies, and fuel in order to support the continued operation of bakeries and community kitchens and meet the basic needs of the population.

The Ministry emphasized that the current situation requires urgent action to mobilize the necessary resources and support humanitarian interventions aimed at preventing further deterioration of food needs and preserving a minimum level of food security for families in the Gaza Strip.
