Palestine and Qatar Discuss Cooperation to Support Families and Strengthen Social Protection

Tunis – On the sidelines of the Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting for the Second World Summit for Social Development, H.E. Dr. Samah Hamad, Minister of Social Development of the State of Palestine, met with H.E. Ms. Buthaina Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family of the State of Qatar.

The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of social protection, empowerment of vulnerable groups, and joint efforts to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip amid escalating Israeli aggression.

Dr. Hamad emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between Qatar and the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development, particularly in light of the critical conditions in Gaza. She underscored the need to align humanitarian interventions with Palestine’s national strategy to ensure coherent efforts and effective delivery of social protection services.

She also commended Qatar’s prominent humanitarian role in supporting the Palestinian people, especially following the recent aggression, and acknowledged the valuable contributions of Qatari institutions—chief among them the Qatar Red Crescent—in providing emergency aid and coordinating efforts with UN agencies.

Dr. Hamad presented an overview of the Palestinian Social Protection Registry, developed with support from the World Bank and the European Union. The registry serves as a national reference for targeting social interventions and is based on a multidimensional poverty approach to reach the most vulnerable groups.

For her part, Minister Buthaina Al Nuaimi reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and its dedication to empowering families and protecting the most affected groups, in line with Qatar’s national vision and humanitarian pledges.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment by both ministers to strengthen mechanisms for cooperation and to support Palestinian families within a shared humanitarian vision for the future.
