MoSD Receives 40 Electric Wheelchairs from Wafaa Capacity Building and Microfinance

Ramallah – December 2024 – As part of efforts to enhance justice and inclusivity within the social protection system, 40 electric wheelchairs were officially handed over to the Ministry of Social Development today. The donation, provided by Wafaa Capacity Building and Microfinance and funded by Penny Appeal Canada, was presented during an official ceremony.

Dr. Samah Hamd emphasized the importance of partnership between the Ministry of Social Development and civil society organizations in supporting the most vulnerable groups in Palestine, especially under the difficult conditions faced by the Palestinian people. She noted that the support provided by Wafa Foundation, with the contribution of Penny Appeal, represents a significant step toward offering services to persons with disabilities who endure additional challenges due to harsh security and living conditions.

Dr. Hamd also underscored the need for continued international support for Palestine, particularly in Gaza. She called for the urgent opening of crossings to facilitate the entry of aid and highlighted the immediate necessity to end aggression, given the severe challenges Gaza faces due to the ongoing blockade and attacks. The people in Gaza suffer from dire humanitarian conditions, including famine and a lack of essential services.

She further stressed that partnerships between governmental and non-governmental institutions contribute to promoting social justice and addressing the needs of vulnerable groups. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to achieving the Ministry’s goals of supporting persons with disabilities through a comprehensive social protection network that meets the needs of marginalized groups in line with the national development and improvement program. Dr. Hamd affirmed that this initiative aligns with the Ministry's strategic plans to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities and provide them with the necessary support and assistance.

In this context, the Director-General of Wafaa Capacity Building and Microfinance stated, "This initiative is not merely the distribution of electric wheelchairs but a message of hope and determination for persons with disabilities in the West Bank. It aims to empower them to live with dignity and actively participate in society. Despite the difficult circumstances in the region, we believe that willpower is stronger than any challenge and that giving is a moral and religious duty. We are committed to supporting the most vulnerable groups to help them overcome difficulties and achieve their aspirations."
