With the Participation of the MoSD and the Governor of Nablus: First Advisory Council Meeting Held for Al-Thuraya Center for Persons with Disabilities

Nablus – The first meeting of the Advisory Council for Al-Thuraya Center for Persons with Disabilities in Nablus Governorate was held today, in the presence of the Minister of Social Development and Acting Minister of State for Relief Affairs, Dr. Samah Hamad, the Governor of Nablus, Mr. Ghassan Daghlas, and the Deputy Governor, with broad participation from representatives of charitable organizations and prominent public figures in the governorate.

Also participating in the meeting were the Assistant Undersecretary for Family Care and Protection, Mr. Akram Al-Hafi; the Minister’s Advisor, Doaa Wadi; the Director General of the General Administration for Persons with Disabilities, Ajaj Ajaj; the Director of the Directorate of Social Development in Nablus, Mr. Mohammad Basharat; the Director of Al-Thuraya Center, Mr. Yasser Maraabeh; and Ms. Samah Maqbool, in addition to a number of representatives from partner institutions and community organizations in the governorate.

This meeting marks the first official gathering of the Advisory Council, which was recently formed to follow up on efforts related to the operation and development of Al-Thuraya Center, in a way that contributes to enhancing services provided to persons with disabilities in the northern governorates.

During the meeting, an extensive discussion took place between members of the Advisory Council and the Minister, during which several questions were raised regarding the duration of the center’s operation, its capacity, the timeline for the actual activation of services, as well as the scale of government contribution and the role of the Ministry of Social Development in supporting the center and ensuring the sustainability of its work.

In response to the participants’ remarks, the Minister affirmed that the ministry is directly following all matters related to the center and is working in partnership with relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of a safe and professional environment that meets the needs of the targeted group. She stressed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the center and its gradual operational plans in accordance with available resources and approved standards.

For his part, Governor Ghassan Daghlas praised the spirit of solidarity and partnership among various official and civil institutions in Nablus Governorate, emphasizing the importance of this humanitarian project and its role in providing care and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities.

The meeting concluded with a number of recommendations and shared visions emphasizing the importance of continued coordination among all partners and accelerating the operational steps for the center so that it may become a specialized humanitarian institution serving the residents of Nablus Governorate and the northern governorates.
