Intensified Government Efforts in Jericho: Samah Hamad Launches Support Programs and Inspects Vulnerable Groups
Jericho – In light of the exceptional circumstances facing Palestine, along with the escalating humanitarian and social challenges, and in alignment with the directives of Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa to strengthen the government’s field presence across all governorates, the Ministry of Social Development continues to intensify its field visits to assess citizens’ needs and ensure the provision of services to the most vulnerable groups. In this context, the Minister of Social Development and Acting Minister of State for Relief Affairs, Dr. Samah Hamad, conducted a field visit to Jericho and the Jordan Valley.
During the visit, Dr. Hamad met with the Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, H.E. Dr. Hussein Hamael, where they discussed several issues related to enhancing social services and improving response mechanisms for the most vulnerable groups in the governorate.

He stressed the need to support programs that strengthen citizens’ resilience under the current conditions and praised the Ministry’s role in providing social care and protection services.
As part of the visit, Dr. Samah Hamad inaugurated a workshop titled “Self-Care Program and Stress Reduction for Women Protection Counselors,” funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and implemented by the Palestinian Counseling Center. The workshop aims to enhance the capacities of counselors and provide them with psychological and professional support in light of the challenges they face in fieldwork.
During the opening, Dr. Hamad highlighted the importance of such programs in improving the quality of services provided to those most in need, commending the humanitarian role played by women protection counselors in handling sensitive and complex cases.
On the sidelines of the workshop, Dr. Hamad met with the counselors and listened to their experiences and challenges. She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting them and strengthening self-care and professional supervision programs, noting that she will review the workshop’s final recommendations and follow up on their implementation.
At the conclusion of the visit, Dr. Samah Hamad visited “Beit Al-Ajdad” (House of Grandparents) in Jericho, where she checked on the conditions of the elderly residents and reviewed the level of services provided to them. She emphasized the importance of enhancing care for this group and improving the quality of social services to ensure they live a dignified and safe life.
