Press Statement Issued by the Ministry of Social Development
The Ministry of Social Development places child protection at the forefront of its work, grounded in its firm belief that children are a trust of society and its future, and that ensuring a safe environment for them is a shared responsibility. Through its Child Protection Units across its directorates, the Ministry works to monitor at-risk cases and intervene early to prevent escalation, in partnership with relevant governmental and community stakeholders.
In this context, the Ministry reminds all citizens that they can report any cases of violence, abuse, or neglect affecting children and families through the Family and Juvenile Protection Hotline (106), operated by the Palestinian Police. This free hotline is available 24/7 and ensures immediate and appropriate intervention. The Ministry also calls on anyone aware of a situation posing a threat to a child or family not to hesitate in reporting, as early reporting can save lives and prevent tragedies. Citizens may also directly contact protection counselors at the Ministry’s directorates across all governorates, who follow up on cases and provide necessary support to families within a professional and specialized framework.
In this regard, the Ministry strongly condemns and denounces the crime that led to the death of a child in the town of Beit Ur, in Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate. This crime constitutes a grave violation of children's rights, a blatant assault on humanitarian and societal values, and a clear breach of the child’s right to life, protection, and care as guaranteed by national laws and international conventions. The Ministry extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased child, praying that he rests in peace.
The Ministry also calls on citizens and media outlets to verify information, refrain from spreading rumors, and rely on official sources for updates regarding this case.
The Ministry reiterates its firm commitment to strengthening the child protection system, enhancing early response mechanisms, and ensuring a safe environment for all children in Palestine.
