MoSD Launches “Grandparents’ House” Project in Gaza, Calls on International Partners to Support Implementation

The Ministry of Social Development announced the launch of a national humanitarian project to establish the “Grandparents’ House” center for the care of elderly men and women in the Gaza Strip, as an urgent response to the severe gap caused by the widespread destruction of social care institutions during the recent aggression.

The project comes in the context of the destruction and disruption of all residential and day-care centers for the elderly in the Gaza Strip, leaving hundreds of seniors—especially the sick, poor, displaced, and those who have lost their caregivers—without care or protection, amid rising rates of poverty, displacement, and homelessness.

The Ministry emphasized that the “Grandparents’ House” will be the first specialized center for elderly care in Gaza, serving as a cornerstone in rebuilding the social protection system for the most vulnerable. The center aims to provide residential care for 100 elderly individuals who lack family support, in addition to day-care services for 300 beneficiaries, including health and nursing care, psychosocial support, and active aging programs, ensuring their dignity and right to a decent life.

The center will be designed according to internationally recognized quality and safety standards, taking into account the needs of the elderly and persons with disabilities, forming a sustainable national model for institutional care services, with the potential for future expansion.

The Ministry of Social Development confirmed that the project represents an urgent humanitarian priority under the current circumstances, and its implementation requires strategic partnerships with donors and international institutions concerned with social protection and elderly rights.

The Ministry calls on local and international partners to invest in this vital project, not only as an emergency response but also as a direct contribution to rebuilding Gaza’s social protection system and ensuring a safer, dignified future for elderly individuals who have devoted their lives to serving their community.

Supporting the “Grandparents’ House” is an investment in human dignity and a sustainable care model that restores trust and strengthens community resilience during the recovery and reconstruction phase.
