MoSD Discusses Ways to Enhance Cooperation with the General Directorate for Drug Control

Ramallah – On Wednesday, the Ministry of Social Development discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination with the General Directorate for Drug Control, in the presence of H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, Mr. Taha Al-Irani, and with the participation of a number of assistant undersecretaries and representatives of the General Directorate for Drug Control.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Hazem Abu Farha, Director of the General Directorate for Drug Control; Captain Taher Hussein from the Directorate; Colonel Montaser Rashid, Director of the Administration Department; Colonel Mahmoud Rdaideh, Director of the Awareness and Guidance Department; as well as Assistant Undersecretary for Community Development Roula Nazzal, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Care and Protection Akram Al-Hafi, Assistant Undersecretary for Community Partnership Khuloud Abdul Khaleq, and Head of the Drug Prevention Unit Ruba Al-Barghouthi.

During the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of unifying efforts and enhancing joint coordination in the field of awareness-raising and prevention of drug abuse, particularly from a social protection perspective. They highlighted the role of the Ministry’s directorates in implementing awareness and guidance programs within the framework of case management and social protection.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation with the General Directorate for Drug Control in implementing awareness and guidance activities through the Ministry’s directorates, as well as issuing a circular to name specialized social counselors within the directorates to handle drug-related cases, with the aim of training and qualifying them to follow up on this file.

The meeting also agreed on coordinating with the police to conduct introductory training courses for drug counselors from a social protection perspective, and to implement awareness workshops in centers affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development.

For his part, Brigadier General Abu Farha affirmed that instructions will be circulated to the branches of the Drug Control Directorates in the governorates to ensure cooperation, coordination, and networking with the directorates of social development, contributing to enhanced community prevention and limiting the spread of drug abuse.

This meeting comes within the framework of the Ministry of Social Development’s commitment—under the guidance of H.E. Undersecretary Mr. Taha Al-Irani—to strengthening institutional partnerships and integrating roles with relevant authorities, in order to achieve comprehensive social protection and enhance the resilience of Palestinian society.
