MoSD Inaugurates New Facilities at Beit Al-Ajdad and Follows Up on Care and Vocational Training Programs in Jericho
Jericho – The Ministry of Social Development continues its efforts to enhance protection and care facilities in Jericho and the Jordan Valley. Minister of Social Development and Minister of State for Relief Affairs, Dr. Samah Hamd, conducted a field visit today that included Beit Al-Ajdad Center and Al-Birr Association for the Children of Martyrs. She was accompanied by the Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative Development and Planning, Ashraf Al-Barghouthi; the Director of the Jericho Social Development Directorate, Ya’qoub Salah Al-Din; and a team from the Ministry.
Dr. Hamd began her tour at Beit Al-Ajdad Center for Elderly Care by inaugurating a solar energy project funded by the World Bank, which provides nearly 160 kilowatts per month, contributing to reduced operational costs and enhanced sustainability of the center’s services. She also inaugurated a new social work unit that provides professional sessions for residents and their families, strengthening the quality of psychosocial care and follow-up.
The Minister further inaugurated an in-house barbershop at Beit Al-Ajdad, designated to provide personal care services for elderly men and women. The facility is operated by local community volunteers and equipped with the necessary tools and materials to ensure safe and dignified services for the residents.
Beit Al-Ajdad Center aims to provide safe and dignified care for older persons, persons with disabilities, and individuals with difficult health conditions in Jericho Governorate through shelter, healthcare, social services, and daily follow-up. The Ministry, in cooperation with the center’s administration, is working to develop infrastructure and improve service quality to ensure that the 46 residents receive comprehensive care that guarantees a dignified life and stable environment, while also providing additional support to their families when needed.
During her tour in Jericho, Dr. Hamd also visited Al-Birr Association for the Children of Martyrs, where she was received by the Director of the Association, Mustafa Al-Ajouri. The Minister reviewed the association’s facilities and departments, learned about the residential services and vocational training programs provided to the resident students, and followed up on their living conditions and available vocational specializations. She further discussed with the management the association’s operational and developmental needs to ensure an improved educational and service environment.
Dr. Hamd affirmed the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to supporting partner institutions and developing protection and care facilities. She emphasized the importance of strengthening services provided to the most vulnerable groups, ensuring their quality and continuity, and advancing the Ministry’s vision of a responsive and effective social protection system that serves citizens across all governorates.
