MoSD Holds Consultative Workshop to Identify Priorities of Women with Disabilities in Palestine
Ramallah – The Ministry of Social Development organized today, Wednesday, a consultative workshop to identify the specific priorities of women with disabilities across various sectors, as part of the “Women’s Empowerment and Political and Economic Participation in the Middle East and North Africa – WoMENA” program.
The workshop was opened by Mr. Akram Al-Hafi, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Care and Development, who reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to integrating disability issues into national plans and public policies, and to enhancing the participation of women with disabilities in political, social, and economic fields.
The workshop aimed to endorse the results of the desk review on the constraints and opportunities faced by women with disabilities in Palestine, identify national priorities for inclusive disability programs within the WoMENA framework, explore institutional and societal challenges hindering the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and strengthen cooperation between government institutions and civil society to develop more inclusive and responsive policies for persons with disabilities.
Participants included representatives from civil society organizations, organizations of persons with disabilities, and community-based organizations from various governorates. The sessions discussed the results of the desk review, analyzed the gaps in implementing the key components of the CRPD, and reviewed the proposed recommendations to support WoMENA programs and identify five national priorities in this field.
This workshop comes as part of the Ministry of Social Development’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with national institutions working in the disability sector, and to ensure the meaningful participation of women with disabilities in shaping national policies and in planning empowerment programs that promote their active engagement in society.
