Specialized Training on the Case Conference Manual to Enhance Equitable Responses for Women with Disabilities

Ramallah – Within the framework of the UN Women joint program “Sawasya III”, a specialized training was concluded on the Case Conference Manual responsive to the rights of women with disabilities, with the participation of three groups of service providers. The training was led by expert Buthaina Nazzal and consisted of 12 intensive sessions, involving more than 90 representatives from the Ministry of Social Development (Women Protection Counselors and Counselors for Inclusion and Disability), as well as representatives from the Public Prosecution, Police, Sharia Judiciary, and the Governorate of Ramallah and Al-Bireh.

Heba Jebait, Head of the Women and Gender Unit at the Ministry of Social Development, affirmed that these trainings contribute to strengthening the National Referral System for abused women and ensuring that survivors, particularly women with disabilities, receive coordinated, comprehensive, and rights-based responses. She noted that the training enhanced the capacities of the counselors and participants in working with women and girls with disabilities, and enriched their knowledge on concepts related to gender-based violence (GBV), comprehensive psychosocial support, and trauma-informed care, in addition to adopting an intersectional approach that helps address overlapping forms of discrimination and barriers faced by this group.

The training also focused on the objectives and framework of the National Referral System, as well as the key roles and responsibilities of its actors, including the Ministry of Social Development, the Family Protection Department, the Family Protection Prosecution, the Ministry of Health, governorates, and the Sharia Prosecution.

The Ministry of Social Development reaffirms its commitment to continuing its work with local and international partners to promote justice and protection for all women and girls, especially those with disabilities, ensuring their access to coordinated, comprehensive, and responsive services that respect their rights and dignity.
