Real Famine in the Gaza Strip: Urgent Warning of Total Food Aid Collapse Within Days
Amid an accelerating humanitarian emergency, the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of State for Relief Affairs issue an urgent appeal and a serious warning of an imminent collapse of the food supply system in the Gaza Strip, due to the ongoing blockade and the continued prevention of entry of essential humanitarian assistance, in the face of international inaction that demands immediate and genuine intervention from all actors.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that its current stock of hot meals will not last beyond the next two weeks, while the final food parcels are expected to be distributed within the next 48 hours, signaling a large-scale humanitarian emergency threatening the lives of more than two million Palestinians.
The WFP also confirmed that all 25 bakeries it supports in Gaza have now completely ceased operations due to severe shortages in fuel and flour. This has resulted in a total shutdown of one of the most vital sources of daily food for over 1.5 million people living under continued bombardment, displacement, and hunger.
With the resumption of military operations and nearly a full month having passed since the last entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, international relief organizations are warning of an imminent famine, as the occupying power persists in enforcing the blockade and preventing the entry of food and relief supplies—a situation that could lead to an unprecedented deterioration in humanitarian conditions.
The Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of State for Relief Affairs stress that the continued blockade and denial of access to fuel and life-saving food assistance are the primary causes of the worsening humanitarian crisis. The ministries call on the international community, humanitarian organizations, and United Nations agencies to act immediately and decisively—before it is too late—to halt the complete humanitarian collapse and save the lives of innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip.
